Every time I soberly think of the word Christians, I immediately feels inadequate or frustration. I feel this way both for myself and my brethren. The reason I feel frustrated and dejected at being a christian is not because I am confused or totally lost in sin. But the thought of the meaning and how the name originated suddenly presents me with the sense of shortfall and inadequacy. I don’t know about you the reader, since the word means Christ like and those who first bore the name were so addressed by unbelievers, outsiders or even enemies who meant it as mockery. Which means that the daily lifestyles of these folks had a resemblance to the Lord Jesus Christ’s as observed by friends and foes. Not that the Lord himself gave this name to followers hoping they will come through by and by, but that the unfriendly public were able to identify and related some character traits between the Lord who at that time was already in heaven and those he left on earth. So my challenge is can anybody identify me in the ordinary course of living with any character trait that is also in Christ my savior. Otherwise how can I also lay any claims and answer the name Christian. When are my going to be identified with meekness, gentleness, love ,peace, temperance, patience, long suffering, Faith and Joy. I mean by unbelievers and in the ordinary daily living, not in the church or crusade ground. For if I am not seen and addressed as Christ like my fear is that I have missed the mark irrespective of my creed and claims.
May God help me to bear the fruit of my faith and may the world around me see the Christ in me. Bro. Emeka Moses
